Rain forests in Africa

Why do the South American rain forests get all the attention? Sure, there are a lot of problems with multinationals using them to their benefit, but Africa has rain forests too!  They are in exactly the same situation as the South Americans, they’re forced to choose between protecting nature and everything in it or choosing to harvest it for cold hard cash. What’s the best choice? The first one, of course! Sure it’s nice to be rich, but do we really need to destroy the planet and millions of lives to receive more money? No, I thought so too. Typical economic rat race symptom, once you reach a certain level of wealth, you have enough money to live comfortably in whatever way you like. Tone it down a bit.

Jamaica about to legalize it

Now lots of countries are realizing that legalizing marijuana means a huge tax income boost, it’s starting to happen all over the world. People who want to use it will not have to hang around shady dealers anymore, which is a big plus. If you legalize the production too, you make sure that gangs and cartels don’t make any money off it. If you really want to rule them out in the drug department you should legalize all of these stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens etc… It might seem like a ballsy move but it would vastly lower the deaths caused by drug wars of any kind. There are however a few expected cons to taking this measure. When gangs, mafiosi and the like can’t sell drugs anymore they’ll start to focus on other things more. We might see a rise in extortion, pickpocketing and slavery, the sale of weapons etc… The governments/companies should offer the drugs at reasonable prices, otherwise you’re creating a black market again, same goes for the potency. We must accept that most countries won’t legalize this because of moral issues, but just because they want some extra budget. That cash should be used for good purposes as far as we can help it, say funding schools and scholars or pensions. Perhaps even public transport, wouldn’t it be nice to take have free buses and trains because people can enjoy their weed? It could be put handled the same way as alcohol, which is a dangerous, addictive drug. Doing this will create massive economic possibilities, we can all profit if we do this right. It might seem a bit odd that Jamaica hadn’t legalized it already, since they’re labeled as such a weed-loving country, but now they’re finally thinking of it. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh would applaud it!

Followers and the followed

All the followers you have on WordPress are like little building blocks, making you bigger. Some blocks are bigger than others, a popular blogger has a bigger impact on your ‘size’ than one who doesn’t have any followers. These people liked your content, they like the topics you write about and how you describe them. Followers can give you that little pat on the back when you don’t feel motivated, when you need a little bit of appreciation. You can write great content, but if you have no followers to share it with, you probably won’t reach very much people. They make you stand out, even if you don’t show people how much followers you have, your reach is so much higher. All those little pieces of the puzzle make your puzzle big!

Brand clothing

It seems to me that you should not buy clothes because of their brand. If you buy something just because it’s a symbol of a high social, financial status etc… You need to think through if you really need an image like that. I’d say, if you like how certain clothes look buy them! If those happen to be brand clothes, that’s fine too. It’s the difference between buying clothes to look good in or clothes as a way of saying:”Look how rich I am, I can afford this!”

The horse race

It’s a Saturday afternoon, today is great day to go watch some horse racing. The stadium is absolutely packed, people have come from all over England for this. I decide to put fifty quid on a horse called: The Germinator. This isn’t a favorite to triumph over the rest of the bunch but you never know with these competitions. The race starts, time to keep those fingers crossed. As the horse race I notice something is slightly off. A few horsemen look very pale, like they’ve eaten something disgusting. I’m alright with that, my horsey is on top thanks to this. Only three rounds to go. There goes The Germinator, galloping through the last hundred meters all alone. The horse rider looks ecstatic as he finishes, so do I. I had some crazy odds, just won 10.000 bucks, time to grab a pint with the lads! Beer y o!

The supermarket

In a way it’s wonderful, you have so much stuff stacked in one big shop, so much things to choose from. Most of the time you’ll have the money to buy those things too, but it’s so easy to buy things you didn’t plan to buy. Remember that time you bought something random because it looked really tasty, I sure do! While this isn’t a bad thing to do once in a while, it is most likely to become a habit sooner or later. There are new things coming in regularly and certainly you want to taste them all, right?! An easy way of coping with this problem is bringing a shopping list with you. All the little bits you pay add up to a big bill over time and that’s what we’re trying to avoid here. Sure the products might be nice to have but if you start buying more than you can handle or could probably use, then you might have a problem. Don’t let supermarkets supersize you!

The lottery ticket

James was convinced this would be the end of all his worries. No more bills to pay, the end of working his 9-5 job. He had the idea of moving somewhere else and just spend his life relaxing, doing the things he loves. He was so excited, he told his family and best friends about this amazing event. He’d share his money with them so they can enjoy life more too. He saw it as his key to a life full of joy. Finally it became Monday, the day he got to cash in. Proudly he got into his car and drove all the way to the lottery headquarters, smiling constantly. James get’s out of the car, finally, he has arrived. A strong wind is blowing, there goes his lottery ticket, no chance of retrieving that. James is plunged into despair as this happens, his dream shattered by a gust of wind, how unfortunate. After a period of struggle, he gets the insight that he can just build a successful for himself by starting a company or doing something innovative. So he proceeds to build his new life step by step and he becomes a multimillionaire. Money that gets handed to you is really nice, but if you can make it yourself, you’ve really made it. If you just receive it you most likely won’t know how to deal with it.

My roommate

Sometimes you wonder why people can’t take their responsibilities. Last month my roommate spent hours calling her friends, obnoxiously yelling at one of her exes while slouching in my comfy couch. So a few days ago she received the bill, it was a solid thousand dollars. Guess what? She can’t pay that. Drama ensues. Now she’s begging her friends for money, that’s just what happens when you don’t think these kind of things through.

Guest post: college

We have been told that going to college would give us a huge advantage, but when I get there I find out that its wrong. For example, if you start out after high getting a factory job, most of these jobs will pay about $10-15 an hour. But if you diced to get a associates of liberal arts degree, were I live, you would make about $12 an hour starting out. Humm… So associates degree isn’t worth it unless you can’t do factory work, which some people with medical problems can’t.

Some bachelors degree pay same or even slightly more, as no schooling beyond high school or even associates. So, the question is a degree worth it? This is the reason I decided to go to full time work in the winter 2014, why waste money when I don’t know 1) what degree is worth, going into debt for? 2) What I really want to do that pays good, but I won’t hate.

The “Reality” high school teachers give us is go to college and you will do fine. Which is not true for some degrees. Right now, I just want a job that will keep me supported, no fancy car or huge house. I want to pay for things myself and not be on food stamps or other government assisted help.
